Stress contributes to premature aging, every disease known to man and is just plain…well, stressful. Becoming conscious about your stress levels, your triggers, and making changes to lessen stress in your life will improve your health in all areas. Here are 5 suggestions to reduce the stress in your life:
.) Say “no” to things that you really do not want to do, or do not have time to do. You don’t even need to have a reason of excuse. Simply saying no, or no thank you, is enough.
.) Give up the daily guilt and realize that good enough is good enough. There always seems to be a list of things to do everyday, and it can feel like failure when we don’t achieve everything. Let it go. You’ll feel much happier doing a few important things well over struggling to tick off a laundry list of things done poorly.
.) Find your sleep. Make good sleep a priority. Losing out on sleep irritability, trouble retaining information, minor illness, poor judgment, increased mistakes and even weight gain.Research and find ways to improve the quality of your sleep and carve out the time to make it happen.
.) Be more present. Step away from the phone, computer, TV and over-stimulation. Find time to be present, in the moment. Take a walk in nature and listen to the sounds. Sit quietly by a window and observe the outside world. Take time to slow your body down and your mind will slow down too.
.) Try essential oils. Lavender is known to lessen the effects of stress on the body and mind, and to reduce anxiety. Ylang ylang can aid in reducing high blood pressure and stress-hormone levels. Chamomile is relaxing and sedating and may aid in insomnia. Vetiver has anti-anxiety properties similar to certain prescription drugs. Experiment and see what oils you are attracted to and how you feel when you use them.
